Everyone desires a perfectly healthy heart. Who wouldn't want to? The heart is vitally responsible for just about everything that gives your body life -- ranging from the transportation of oxygen to the success of your immune system. We cannot refuse to acknowledge that it is entirely essential to every atom of our being. You would not have had the opportunity to experience life if it had not been for it, and you would not be reading this right now.

As a result, we do everything in our power to keep our hearts as healthy as possible. We exercise, eat a balanced diet, and try not to harm ourselves. And to ensure that we are on track in maintaining a healthy heart, we look for ways to monitor our hearts daily. We frequently monitor our hearts with chest straps or wrist straps, but, between these two, which is better? Which one will provide us with accurate and reliable information?

As we are all aware, a heart rate monitor is a device that allows the measurement of a person's heart rate. It is frequently used when people exercise or engage in other fitness activities. On the other hand, medical professionals use them to monitor a patient's heartbeat, who may have a heart problem. Chest straps and wrist straps are the two most common types of heart monitors.

The Pros and Cons of Heart Rate Chest Straps

  • Pros

Accurate. Chest straps are more accurate at low and high intensities. If you're serious about getting the best results from your training, this is a must-consideration.

Reliable and consistent. A chest strap is more accurate and thus more reliable and consistent. Heart rate has always had a lag, but using a strap reduces the lag you see on your monitor and makes interpreting the numbers while running easier than using a wrist-based monitor.

  • Cons

Comfort. Comfort – or discomfort – is the most common complaint athletes have about chest straps. However, if you have a high-quality strap and wear it frequently, you'll soon forget you're wearing it.

The Pros and Cons of Wrist Based Heart Rate Monitors

  • Pros

Convenient. The convenience of wrist-based monitors is an obvious advantage. There are no straps to wear, wash, or maintain, and this ease of use facilitates and improves consistency in their application.

Accurate at Low Intensity. One of the big cons of wrist-based monitoring is its accuracy. At low-intensity, wrist-based monitors seem to be fairly accurate. Often, athletes use their wrist-based monitors at the same time. In the majority, wrist-based monitors prove to be accurate.

  • Cons

Inaccurate. Wrist-based monitors are fairly accurate at low intensity, as mentioned above in the pros list. Unfortunately, when the intensity is increased, this does not appear to be the case.

Tightness and placement. The placement and tightness of the strap on a wrist-based monitor are critical for its ability to accurately measure your heart rate. They become uncomfortable if you place them correctly and do them up as tight as they need to be for accuracy. As a result, most athletes wear them too loosely, and as the intensity increases and the arms begin to move more aggressively, the monitor begins to move around and loses accuracy.

Unreliable.  Wrist-based monitors are typically unsuitable for reliable and consistent heart rate monitoring.

There is no right or wrong choice per se; if you're training solely on heart rate or monitoring some sort of heart problem, a chest strap is a good option for point-to-point accuracy. If you're not training exclusively by heart rate and just for easy or less important runs, a wrist strap monitor will suffice. However, it is important to consider the points raised above when deciding whether to use a chest strap or a wrist-based monitor. It is critical to choose wisely because this concerns your health. There may be a tendency that you lack the resources to keep track of your wellbeing- your heart, but do not give up hope. Remember that determination is a superpower. If you truly aspire to something wholeheartedly, nothing can ever stop you.
